Description: Photograph caption dated February 19, 1989 reads, "Director Steve Smith, right, puts an applicant through the paces for entry to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey's Clown College during auditions held in the Valley. Those chosen to help make the world smile will undergo 10 weeks of training and end with the "World's Funniest Final Exam." Graduates go on to perform with the famed Clown Ailey."
