Front view of a Metro Rapid bus, Line #720, on the northeast corner of 5th and Grand Avenue in Downtown. The MTA (formerly RTD) bus system was established in February 1993 from the merger of the Southern California Rapid Transit District (RTD), the county's bus and LRT operator and the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission (LACTC). It is headquartered in the Gateway Center building, located directly east of Los Angeles Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles. MTA identifies all of its Metro Rail lines by assigning each line a different color; the red-color bus shown in this photo is called the Metro Rapid bus. Line #720 travels eastbound from 5th & Colorado to Commerce Center, and westbound from Commerce Center back to 5th & Colorado. Photo dated: August 24, 2005.
