Photograph caption dated December 30, 1960 reads, "Newly crowned Rose Queen Carole Washburn takes the floor for the traditional first dance with Tournament of Roses President Arthur W. Althouse at Thursday night's Coronation Ball in Pasadena. Carole also saved early dances for Grand Marshal Gov. William F. Quinn of Hawaii, and her escort, Pasadena City College student Jim Busby."
