This is a photograph of "Fr. Flanagan's congregation, Easter 1930." It is a small group of people, most of whom are children or young adults. They are all dressed in their Sunday best. Fr. Regan and Fr. Dempsey spent Easter with Fr. Flanagan. Rev. Flanagan was born in Philadelphia, PA. He entered The Venard, Maryknoll's Apostolic College in 1918, and was ordained at Maryknoll, New York in 1928. He was assigned that year to Wuchow, South China, but failing eyesight made it necessary for him to return soon after. He remained in the U.S. for the rest of his life, doing promotion work as well as chaplain and other pastoral duties. -- Born in New York, Fr. Dempsey came to Maryknoll in 1919 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1929. The same year he was assigned to the Wuchow mission in South China and became the temporary Society Superior of the mission in 1936. During the war years he was named the superior of Chungking and was awarded an Emblem for Meritorious Civilian Service by the US Military Ordinariate in 1945. He fled to Hong Kong in 1951 and returned again to work with refugees in 1953. As late as 1972, Fr. Dempsey worked as a chaplain to young workers at the Caritas Center in Ngau Tau Kok in Hong Kong. -- Born in Massachusetts, Bishop Regan entered Maryknoll in 1927 and was ordained to the priesthood on January 27, 1929. He was consecrated a Bishop on April 25, 1962. He spent 22 years in South China, from 1929-1951. He was in Kweilin, Wuchow, and Laipo. He was placed under house arrest in 1950 and was expelled in 1951 and returned to the United States. He began the new mission in the Philippines and served there for the rest of his life.
