Description
Photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on July 24, 1972 states: "The 465-foot wide break in the levee system which caused water to flood over the delta islands of Andrus and Brannan June 21 finally was closed today with tons of sand and rock. Crews have been working 24 hours a day to shut the gap. . . . . Later this week two dredges will be brought in to heap mounds of clay on top of the rock and sand barrier which now sits between three and five feet above the water line. . . .
