Description
Columbus, Ohio: Sheriff's Sergeant William Manus looks at a six-foot high cross on a three-foot base, bound with rags and soaked in kerosene, that was planted on the front lawn of Mrs. George Lawson's ranch style home here late August 14th. The Negro mother and her two crying children watched in fear as the mob of about 100 persons, fired the cross, cut the telephone line and throw rocks at the building. The Lawsons are the only Negro family in the neighborhood. Her husband was away in Connecticut at the time.
