Description
Kay Bogendorfer Orner was born in 1909. She was president of the Los Angeles Civil Service Commission from 1953-1960, and the first female postmaster in Van Nuys, serving from 1960-1972. She died in 1991.
Photograph caption dated March 22, 1957 reads "American flag which flew over Capitol in Washington is presented to Girl Scout Troop 730 by Mrs. Kay Bogendorfer in (sic) behalf of Congressman Joe Holt. Left to right are Connie Steitz, Mrs. Bogendorfer, Mrs. William Malinoff, troop leader, Dorothea Nelli and Harold White, youth service chairman of the Van Nuys Kiwanis Club, sponsors of the troop. In background are members of troop." Mrs. Bogendorfer is president of the Los Angeles Civil Service Commission.
