Description
Close-up view of two cornerstones for Cambodian Buddhist Temple located at 2625 E. 3rd St. in the city of Long Beach. The cornerstones, which are side-by-side on a column, read: (on the left) "Second Presbyterian Church", and (on the right) "A.D. 1914". Verso on the photograph states that this Temple was known as Geneva Presbyterian Church, and prior to that it was known as Second Presbyterian Church. It does not, however, list when it acquired its current name. The church was built AD 1914.; Buddhism, a Dharmic faith, is divided into two main branches (Mahayana and Theravada) and centers on the teachings of Gautama Buddha, who lived in parts of what is now Nepal and northeast India circa the fifth century BCE. Buddhism is the fourth-largest religion in the world, behind Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism; and has anywhere from 230 to 500 million followers.
