Photograph of an exterior view of the Farmers and Merchants Bank on the corner of Main Street and Commercial Street, Los Angeles, ca.1895. The two-story block building stands on the corner with arched upper windows and a number of displayed signs. A man stands on the sidewalk to the left near a horse-drawn carriage. Picture file card reads "The two cantons at curb captued from the Mexicans, now at County Courhouse.". Legible signs include: "Capital Paid $500,000 Surplus & Profits $800,000", "Oldest and Largest Bank in Southern California", and "R.G. Dun and Co.". The script of the first to signs may have been added by hand to the negative afterwards, or traced over original text.
