Description
Photograph of a panorama of San Francisco in the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake and fire, shown from the Crocker residence, 1906. A paved, narrow street runs the width of the image, a large swath of charred trees and the burnt remains of buildings spread out over the remaining foundations to the right. At center, a section of brick chimney can be seen standing on its own. In the background left, scaffolding can be seen alongside a highrise under construction, which looks more complete than the toppled, freestanding walls of decimated city buildings that stretch to the right. The mountains are visible in the distance.
