Description
Murray & Ready Employment Agency calendar with advertisement on the reverse. Advertised as "The Leading Employment Agents on the Pacific Coast," located at 634 & 636 Clay Street between Kearny & Montgomery, San Francisco. The front side of the calendar is the month of December 1898. The reverse side of the calendar features press reviews of the agency, including this from the San Francisco Daily Examiner reflecting the attitudes after the Chinese Exclusion Act: "Supplanting the Chinese. Many White Workers Being Forwarded to the County. White help are going forward from San Francisco in large numbers to work in the Hotels, Restaurants, etc., of the State, and take the places of Chinese. 'We have no difficulty in supplying all the help required, and we are getting good help at that, as is attested by many letters of approval which we have received,' said Mr. Ready of Murray and Ready. 'We have proved that the employers can secure all the white help they want right here in San Francisco'..."
