Photograph caption dated January 2, 1947 reads, "The arrow points to a big gap in the pavement at Ninth and Grand streets following the shattering gas explosion which ripped the heavy iron cover off the Bureau of Power and Light's main corner junction room underneath the street. Debris fell on a passing automobile."
