Utterback's daughter was kidnapped by James E. Reinhardt when Utterback agreed to let him take her daughter to the grocery store. The two had met a week before on a blind date. He returned fifteen minutes later without the toddler and began to demand money from Utterback. The two proceeded to the bank where a teller sensed something was wrong and called authorities who quickly apprehended Reinhardt.
