Description
This is a photograph that "was taken to send to former Pastor Fr. Phil Taggart, but Fr. Phil died before the film was printed. Left to right, his first Curate Fr. Ruppert, second Curate Fr. Ashness, third Curate Fr. McDermott and fourth Curate Fr. Burke."
Rev. McDermott was born in Worcester, MA. He entered Maryknoll in 1920 and was ordained in 1927. He was assigned to Kongmoon, South China that year, where he remained until 1937, whereupon he returned to the U.S -- Born in Ireland, Fr. Burke came to this country in 1914. He entered Maryknoll in 1920. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 27, 1929 and that same year was assigned to Kongmoon China. In 1940 he was assigned to work among the Chinese in Cleveland, Ohio until 1943. He then went to Chicago where he again ministered to the Chinese. -- Born in Iowa, Fr. Ruppert came to Maryknoll in 1920 and was ordained to the priesthood on September 23, 1923. He then was assigned to Kongmoon and Wuchow in 1926. He was the Society Superior in Wuchow in 1930. He returned to the United States in 1933 and worked on promotion for many years. He was also the Society Superior in Hawaii from 1944-1949.
