Photograph of a drawing by Edward Vischer depicting the Mission San Gabriel during a Sunday gathering after Mass, 1878. Several people are on horseback at center and to the left in the background. Some women stand near a vendor's booth shaded by a blanket to the right. Several people and horses are near the covered porch of a small building at right while a monk stands with three children at left where the mission church and another, shorter building are visible beyond some trees in the background. Five bells are visible in the bell tower which is capped with a cross. The text below the image reads: "Sunday gatherings after mass. Ex-mission (now parish church) of San Gabriel. After Hahn's celebrated riders of M. Sherman [...] Original before Hahn. In appreciation of the priests of the original and in friendly remembrance of its genial author with his permission [...]".
