Description
This 1928 photo shows the pumping station at Sacramento's water purification plant, located just north of the Southern Pacific Railroad yard. Built in an Italian Romanesque style, the building's frieze is ringed with the names of 16 pioneers in the realm of water purification: Kutter, Bernoulli, Chezy, Venturi, Simpsom, Mills, Sedgwick, Pasteur, Whipple, Gorgas, Kirkwood, Hazen, Toricelli, Pitot, Johnson and Fuller.
