Description
This postcard shows the "Old" Sacramento County Courthouse building. On the reverse, a man named Johnnie wrote a quick note from Denver, Colorado to a Mrs. McCabe in Grand Junction, Colorado. The building was the second Sacramento County Courthouse. It was built in 1854, six months after the original courthouse burned down in a fire. It served temporarily as the California State Capital for a few months, before serving as the county courthouse and included the county jail and Sacramento Hall of Records. The building was destroyed in March 1910 after a lengthy public battle over its preservation.
