Description
View of the Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Toulumne County. Caption reads: Mighty Span: The outstretched arms of Supt. Jones fail to span the fire-hollowed trunk of the Palace Hotel Tree in the untrailed center of the South Grove. The Sequoia gigantea specimen, the fifth largest tree in the grove with a diameter of 21 feet, is estimated to be more than 1,000 years old.
