Description
Judge and Mrs. Welch and Mr. Whiting dressed in hiking garb in Yosemite. They wear long sleeve shirts, broad brimmed hats. Mrs. Welch has on jodphers and hiking boots. The men have their legs protected by leather wrappings from below their knees to their ankles and covering the tops of their boots. They also wear ties. Written on back: "Glacier Point, one summer at Yosemite, 1919. Left - Judge Welch (Dad), Center - Mama, Right - Mr. Whiting S.F. Atty. F. and I. were not with them; but at Yosemite Lodge". Photo is one of several found in an envelope from Welch family labeled: "Snaps of stays in Yosemite -Summer 1919 Xmas 1922 - J.R., Mrs., Frances & Ione spent almost a week at the Sentinal Hotel on the Merced River. It was the first time Yosemite was open to the public in the winter. Train from S. J. to Merced, & to El Portal - then truck-like heavy bus on to the Hotel."
