Youngsters at the 74th Street School sit at individual cubicles on June 3, 1973, for reading and vocabulary lessons using the Rubin System, developed by former aerospace engineer turned resources teacher Irving Rubin. Vocabulary and pronunciation are taught with the help of tape cassettes and word pictures. To help the kindergartners remember what they have learned, manipulative puzzles--combining words with pictures--are used as games.
