Mayan refugees, children and a woman with a baby, eat inside of a hut in the refugee camp of Cuauhtémoc, Chiapas. Refugees in the camps had no resources to deal with illness such as tubercolosis, dengue, malaria or malnutrition. In the days following the Guatemalan attack at the nearby refugee camp of El Chupadero on April 30, 1984, one of the most violent assaults of this kind that left seven refugees dead, refugees from the camp of Cuauhtémoc fled their settlement to avoid the same fate. Los refugiados en los campamentos no tenían recursos para lidiar con enfermedades como la tubercolosis, el dengue, la malaria o la desnutrición. En los días posteriores al ataque guatemalteco en el campamento de refugiados cercano de El Chupadero el 30 de abril de 1984, uno de los asaltos más violentos de este tipo que dejaron siete refugiados muertos, los refugiados del campamento de Cuauhtémoc huyeron de su asentamiento para evitar el mismo destino.
