Title supplied by cataloger. Built in 1917 for Beverly Hills co-founder Max Whittier, this Italian style mansion was purchased in 1978 by Sheik Mohammad al-Fassi and his wife, Sheikha Ibtissm, and came to be known as the 'Sheik's House'. To the dismay of several neighbors, al-Fassi made several modifications to the property that were not considered in alignment with neighborhood standards. On January 2, 1980, the 58-room mansion was severely damaged by fire, believed by investigators to have been intentionally set. The structure was demolished in August 1985. Exterior view of the mansion at 9561 Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
