Designed by Stanton and Stockwell, the Junipero Serra State Office Building opened in 1960 and was in use until 1998; it was demolished in 2006 and is the site of a new Federal Courts Building. The State of California replaced its offices with the Ronald Reagan State Building, located at 300 S. Spring Street. An El Camino Real bell at Broadway and 1st Street, outside of the Junipero Serra State Office Building, on March 29, 1976.
