Description
Pictured here on the evening of November 17, 1939, is the 1510 L Street location of Woodall and Lehman Flowers and Gifts. The business was founded by the English born Herbert “Bert” Woodall in 1924 at the Oak Park address of 2753 Thirty-Fifth Street. The pictured location opened in 1939. Carl Lehman joined Woodall in 1930. Woodall witnessed tremendous change in the floral industry through the twentieth-century and, upon retiring in 1957, talked about refrigeration: “After making up the floral pieces, we put them on the floor and covered then with wet newspapers. Now we can make up floral pieces the night before and keep them fresh under refrigeration.” He passed away in 1961 and Lehman in 1958.
