Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy at a forum hosted by the Citizens/Labor Energy Coalition. The advocacy group calls for energy and consumer rights. The group was formed in Washington in 1978. Kennedy was senator from Massachusetts, his native state, for almost five decades. He ran against the incumbent President Jimmy Carter in the 1980 primary elections of the Democratic Party.
