Description
Engraved map, 45 x 31, Paris, 1762. The map is of the Buache-Delisle type, with the famous Sea of the West a little larger than usual. The R.S. Thomas appears on the peninsula just north of the B. de la Madalena, and instead of the Santa Lucia mountains we have the C. Ste. Lucie occupying the position of Pt. Conception, although that point is shown several degrees farther to the north. The map is color-coded and divided into the colonial claims of France (Canada and Louisiana), England (coastlines) and Spain (Mexico, Florida, Cuba, and Central America). A tip of Asia is also visible on the top left.
