Description
Ernest Jennings Ford was born on February 13, 1919, in Bristol, Tennessee. He was best known as Tennessee Ernie Ford, an American recording artist and television host who enjoyed success in the country and western, pop, and gospel musical genres. Ford was also a comic actor and hosted several television shows. He died on October 17, 1991.
Photograph caption dated June 15, 1959 reads "Tennessee Ernie Ford, left, of Toluca Lake accepts Volunteers of America annual Media Award presented by Gen. John F. McMahon, commander-in-chief of national religious welfare organization, in recognition of Ford's continuing contribution toward maintenance of high spiritual and ethical standards in field of entertainment."
