PhotographÂ was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated May 20, 1964 reads, "Grim-faced Relv Kruger, left, second officer of ill-fated Norwegian freighter Sandanger, talks to newsmen as he arrived in Long Beach last night on the Bodenstein, a German ship, which rescued the 44 survivors. Nine are presumed dead in the tragedy which occurred 450 miles south of Long Beach. The ship's third officer, Odd Steen Hanson, is at right."
