Description
Two women in morning dress and promenade costume for December 1822. The woman on the left wears a white bonnet covered in yellow and orange flowers and blue ribbons. A white, lace collar shows beneath her rose pink dress. She wears with three gold necklaces. Her Juliet style sleeves have circle detailing around the bottom of the puff. There are two leaf patterns on the bodice above the empire waist. She wears pale yellow gloves and holds a white handkerchief. Around the hem of the skirt are three rows of fabric, gathered at even intervals to create small, circular puffs. She wears a pair of black shoes with a bow. The woman on the right wears a wide brimmed hat, trimmed with black ribbon. There is a black feather plume on the top and a long, black, net veil drapes over the front of the hat, which she holds away from her face. A wide, black ribbon secures the bonnet underneath her chin. She wears a white, ruffled cap underneath her hat. Her dress is tan with a white ruff collar and a simple repeating pattern runs over the bodice, down the front of the skirt and along the hem. The end of a gold chain is tucked into the empire waist and a gold ornament sticks out over the top. She wears a pair of pale blue gloves and holds a navy blue handbag. Her shoes are tan to match her dress. The women are standing on a sidewalk in front of a wrought-iron fence covered with green ivy.
