Description
Aquarius Theater, Hollywood, 1969. "The Aquarius Theater, painted by a group of Dutch and English artists called 'The Fool', housed the Los Angeles production of the Rock and Roll musical 'Hair'. The painting depicts in rainbow psychedelic style, the coming of the Age of Aquarius. Like the Siddhartha mural, the Aquarius rapidly became a Hollywood landmark. Unfortunately, the Aquarius Theater walls were not properly prepared before the painting was executed, i,e,, washed and primed with a good undercoat. Consequently, after a year and a half, the west wall of the painting began to peel severely (slide #41) and was finally painted out completely in late 1971." -- Environmental Communications, Street paintings of Los Angeles, unpaged, #39-42 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fool_(design_collective).
