Title from caption. Alt title from recto. Written on verso: Exterior view of the famous, or rather, infamous slave pen. People of this generation can hardly make it seem possible that such an "institution" was ever tolerated under the stars and stripes, in this "land of the free." Read the inscription on that sign over the door: "Price, Birch & Co., Dealers in Slaves."
