Photograph caption dated December 26, 1959 reads, "Pile Driver - Sam Banales, Poly's fullback, proved a strong, bull-like runner throughout the season and his superlative all-around play won him a backfield berth on the third All-City team. A senior, he weighed in at 197 pounds on a 5-foot, 8-inch frame." Banales was selected for the 1959 Helms All-City football squad.
