Description
"This was probably a vaulted image house with a colossal Buddha statue in brick masonry and stucco. Only a pedestal and giant stone reliquary are found today." Doorjambs over 27 feet (8 meters) high. It is situated to the west of the stupa. Side view of this edifice showing the remains of the massive brick walls "pierced with tall, narrow windows in this largest image house in Anuradhapura." It contained the largest stone reliquary found in Sri Lanka (until 1993). This includes a mandapa (vestibule) and a circumambulation path.
