Photograph caption dated January 2, 1959 reads, "Nestled among chrysanthemums and blue cornflowers on Iowa's winning entry in Class A, for States and Territories, is Joanne Lucille MacDonald of Ames, who as 'Miss Iowa' was runner-up to Miss America last fall. Float, titled 'The New Iowa,' salutes farms factories and football. More than 125,000 flowers were used. Rolling display also carried modern factory."
