Photograph of Cathedral Rock on a beach in La Jolla, ca.1904. At center a tall rock with smooth sides is visible forming an archway. Sand is visible in the foreground, and smooth, small rocks are visible beyond the archway. A boulder is visible to the left of the archway beyond the rocks, while a tall cliff face is visible at left. The ocean is visible in the background. According to a number of sources, Cathedral Rock collapsed on January 19, 1906 between 3 and 4 a.m.
