Photograph of close-up exterior view of Butadiene storage tanks of the Shell Chemical Company, ca.1940. At center, a large spherical tank supported by several metallic rods and crossbeams can be seen. Half of another tank can be seen to the left of the image, and a small section is visible in the extreme foreground on the right. At center, large ladders can be seen connecting to the bodies of the spherical tanks from the ground. On the staircase to the left, an older man wearing a brimmed hat can be seen. A large light pole near one of the staircases at center is visible holding the sign "No Smoking". Atop each platform, a small metallic platform is visible. A small pole with a light and two vertical pipes can be seen at the top of each platform. In the extreme background, another spherical tank is visible. A staircase can be seen curving along the surface of the sphere connecting to the upper platform in the background.
