The Elsie M. Castner Oral History Project was made possible by grants from the estates of Robert F. Cocklin, Ruth Castner Cocklin and others. The Dixon Public Library undertook this project in 1998 with the assistance of Chris Castaneda from CSU, Sacramento. The oral history of long-time resident Lena Yolo is a record of her memories about growing up in rural Dixon, CA. Her stories relate to the economic development of agriculture and ranching in early California communities. Her father immigrated from Switzerland in 1889 and bought land for a dairy farm in Dixon in the early 1900s.
