The fort was built for the "Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers" television show produced by Screen Gems. It was later demolished by the County due to safety concerns and the site became a parking lot. Photograph caption dated September 13, 1962 reads, "Massive fort at Vasquez Rocks delights young boy - Rock's ridges, ledges, crevices provide adventure for Sam."
