Photograph of a half-tone image depicting an automobile in front of California's first producing oil well, June 1, 1928. The automobile is at left and three men are standing nearby. The wooden oil derrick is directly behind the car and is a tapered structure with a flat top. Several leafless trees can be seen in the area around the well, and a tall brushy hill is visible in the background. Metal pipes can be seen on the ground in the foreground.
