Description
An older Korean man wears the traditional hat (gat or kat) and smokes a long pipe. His attire reflects late 19th century or early 20th century fashion in Korea, and the gat is often an indication of economic status. In his notes, Williams referred to this man as "the perfect subject." In addition to recording the war effort, Williams traveled to small towns, villages, and farms to capture the spirit, culture, and individual personalities of the Korean people, whose lives were dramatically affected by the war.
