Photograph caption dated February 4, 1960 reads, "Dennis Gardner, 18, assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 212, Canoga Park, was honored in ceremony at which he was elevated to Eagle Scout rank as his parents, Capt. and Mrs. Lee Gardner, left, watched George Dutton, district Scout executive, present awards. Starting Scouting at 11 in Duarty, Dennis did much Scout work in Germany. Rank was second class when he began Scouting at Darmstadt, Germany, in 1965. He received 32 of 34 Merit Badges he holds while in Germany, making historic hikes and cycle trips to earn many of them. Presentation was made at ceremony in Canoga Park Elementary School".
