Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Designed by Stanton and Stockwell, the Junipero Serra State Office Building opened in 1960 and was in use until 1998; it was demolished in 2006 and is the site of a new Federal Courts Building. The State of California replaced its offices with the Ronald Reagan State Building, located at 300 S. Spring Street.
Photograph caption dated October 10, 1961 reads, "Sunland-Tujunga residents picket state building - Battle to halt gravel pit in Big Tujunga Wash area." The State Building (upper right, later demolished) is located at 1st Street and Broadway. Also visible are Citizens National Bank and the Redwood Restaurant.
