Description
A limited promotional video featuring selected performances recorded live during the third concert of Other Minds Festival 5, on March 27, 1999. Renowned toy pianist Margaret Leng Tan performs works by John Cage, António Pinho Vargas, Guy Klucevsek, Toby Twining and Ludwig Van Beethoven. Percussion ensemble CRASH performs choreographed works by Mary Ellen Childs. Margaret Leng Tan performs: Suite for a Toy Piano (1948) by John Cage General Complex (1995) by Antonio Pinho Vargas (arr. by Margaret Leng Tan, U.S. Premiere) Sweet Chinoiserie (1995) by Guy Klucevsek (arr. by Margaret Leng Tan, West Coast premiere) Satie Blues (1989, rev. 1995) by Toby Twining (West Coast premiere) Nightmare Rag (1989, rev. 1995) by Toby Twining (West Coast premiere) Piano sonata in C major, Op. 2, No. 3 (First movement, Allegro con brio) (1796) by Ludwing van Beethoven CRASH performs: Drum Roll (1998) (West Coast premiere) Talking Stick (1998) (West Coast premiere) Shiva (1994) (West Coast premiere) Sight of Hand (1999) (World premiere) * Click (1989) (West Coast premiere) by Mary Ellen Childs * Commissioned for the OM 5 Festival with the assistance of the Rockefeller Foundation Multi-Arts Production Fund. The fifth Other Minds Festival was held in the Cowell Theater at Fort Mason in San Francisco from March 25-27, 1999. The composer lineup included Linda Bouchard, Mary Ellen Childs, Luc Ferrari, Alvin Lucier, António Pinho Vargas, Julian Priester, Sam Rivers, Errollyn Wallen, and special guest artist Margaret Leng Tan. Each concert was preceded by a panel discussion with the evening's artists, moderated by Other Minds Executive & Artistic Director, Charles Amirkhanian.
