Description
A woman poses in promenade dress for December 1822. She wears a large, purple hat with a ruffled brim. A very dark purple flower with a blue center and white feathers decorate the top of the hat. The white ruffled edge of a cap is visible under the hat. A white ruff collar, surrounded by a purple collar from her dress, cradles her chin. She holds a gray, fur stole tightly around her shoulders and neck. Her dress is the same purple as her hat. The Juliet style sleeves have a diamond pattern made of ribbon on the puff of the sleeve. Rosettes decorate the intersections of the ribbons. The sleeves are decorated with a ruffle from the cuff to halfway to the elbow. A small white ruffle peeks out at the cuffs. She wears a pair of cream-colored gloves and holds a large, gray, fur muff by her side. Three stripes of gray fur run along the bottom of the skirt. She wears purple shoes. In the background, to the right, is the faint outline of a domed building surrounded by trees. Grass comes up to the edge of the sidewalk where she stands. Behind her, to the left, is a wrought-iron fence supported by a short column with an orb on a pedestal and a peacock on top.
