During Peter Drucker’s lecture regarding the change leader he begins by suggesting to his students that they examine their organizations by asking the question: If you were not already doing what you are doing, and started fresh would you continue doing things the way you are doing them? He then discusses the purpose of service, and customer service and uses the companies of Hewlett-Packard and Caterpillar as examples. He then begins a discussion that stresses the importance of leading change rather than trying to catch up with change using deregulation and electricity as an analogy. From there he begins to discuss the health care system in the United States and compares it to those in other countries. Later in the lecture he discusses the founding of General Motors and the Ford Edsel, explaining how the Edsel was one of the biggest disasters of automobile history despite its superior design. Also in this lecture Drucker shares the history of aspirin.
