Description
This Sept. 20, 1957, photograph shows Buzz Patterson scoring a touchdown in a high school football game between the La Sierra High School Longhorns and the Bishop Armstrong High School Falcons at El Camino Stadium in Carmichael. Several Armstrong players (in white uniforms) pursue the black-jerseyed Patterson as he heads for the end zone. A referee is raising his arms to signal a touchdown. The game was La Sierra’s Class-A debut, and the Patterson touchdown was his school’s first official score. The Longhorns, who netted but 11 rushing yards for the game, scored on a pass play of 8 yards, from quarterback Mike Sloss to Patterson. Armstrong won the game 21-6.
