Title supplied by cataloger. Photograph caption dated December 15, 1981 reads, "In Los Angeles, 150 Polish-Americans gathered at Pariotic [sic] Hall yesterday to light an eternal candle for freedom in Poland, while tens of thousands marched in world capitals including Paris, Madrid, Copenhagen, Brussels, West Berlin and Reykjavik, Iceland. Monty Randall, left, and Alma Pedroza hold candles at the service. Supervisor Kenneth Hahn said the purpose of the gathering in L.A. was to "let the people of Poland know their friends and relatives in Los Angeles are praying for them..." In Paris, lines of demonstrators filed 50 abreast for more than a mile, carrying banners demanding freedom for jailed Solidarity members. But in West Berlin, gangs of youths shouting "Hands off Poland" smashed windows of airline ticket offices. The local Polish-American League said a special Mass will be said Sunday at 2 p.m. in St. Vibiana's Cathedral, followed by a rally in the Civic Center."
