Photograph of the beginning of construction on the Royal Hills subdivision on the northeast slope of the Santa Monica Mountains. " The two pictures to the left are representative of the "new frontier" in Southern California home building. They are of the some [sic] area, taken a year apart. But what was once cut and filled land is now a completed neighborhood. The area: Santa Monica Mountains side of the San Fernando Valley. And hillside building is rising all over the Southland. As man learned to cope with the engineering problems of the hillside, homes slowly started moving up the slopes of the hills from Hollywood to Sherman Oaks, from Malibu to Pasadena. It has been estimated that there is enough available land for 2,000,000 more people to settle, indicating / Turn to Page 36 / The Los Angeles Examiner. All Year.
