Photograph was edited for publication purposes The Veterans Administration Hospital, San Fernando (actually located in Sylmar) was partially destroyed in the 1971 Sylmar earthquake because the early masonry buildings did not meet earthquake codes. The facility was deeded to the County of Los Angeles in 1972, and a new facility, the Sepulveda Veterans Administration Hospital, was built. When that facility was damaged during the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the Veterans Administration demolished it as well, rebuilding an outpatient facility on the site and sending all inpatients to the VA hospital in West Los Angeles. The original "San Fernando" site on Sayre Street in Sylmar is now Veterans Memorial Park. Photograph caption dated August 8, 1961 reads, "Dyer." Dudley J. Dyer has been hired as the new supervisory fiscal officer at the Veterans Administration Hospital, San Fernando.; See images #00126276 and #00126281 for all photos in this series.
