Photograph caption dated July 6, 1959 reads, "Fire Chief retires - Batt. Chief. Paul Clark, left, head of Los Angeles County Fire Department forces at Newhall, turns over duties to Hiram Swallow on Clark's retirement after 35 years as firefighter. Clark survived forest fires, broken back and heart attack during long career, now says he plans to spend his time fishing, taking photos and raising cattle."
